Oregon Coast

Cannon Beach was really nice..went for a great hike at Ecola State Park…quite a climb…only downer was a big ugly green and yellow snake right on my path…almost stepped on him…as you can imagine that became a bit of a “scene”…frantic scream…jump in the air and ofcourse Stu see’s none of this and thinks that once again I have lost it…it was a a rainforest in there and then around a corner you would see an incredible view of the ocean…really nice…but snakes…honestly…was waiting for AZ to see them…

Next stop Lincoln City, Or…now as you will recall Stu was let go from his position of accomodation manager and I have now taken on that responsibility…we had a transition meeting and decided that we would mix in free “boon docking” sites like casinos along with paid parks…but no Walmarts…(unless absolutely necessary or we get bored since that did result in a good story)…this plan will keep our happy hour budget money available since we have both determined that in the MOHO life drinking is a necessity…

The Oregon coast highway 101 is absolutely beautiful…

Gold Beach Oct 28:15

Im for once not embellishing…but Im not convinced that the highway was really built with tour bus size vehicles in mind…so a lot of winding roads and tall cliffs…so you can imagine that taking these “corners” can be a bit of an experience in the beast….Stu did comment that people trying to pass him has not really been a problem…Im thinking no wonder you take the corner at the suggested speed or a bit more and that speed is probably designated for a sports car that hugs the road…sometimes I feel like the beast is riding on 3 wheels instead of 6…at any rate his driving is excellent since the alternative would be me and the beast would be in the repair shop very quickly….so we pack up and Im sitting in my navigator chair thinking this is starting to feel a bit less stressful…NEVER ON A MOHO TOUR LET THIS CROSS YOUR MIND…at one of the many turns there is a huge crash down the back hallway…I turn around…hopefully Stu did not…and the entire fridge contents are now rolling back and forth and up and down the hallway….Stu says…”shall I pull over?”…Im thinking are you kidding me…where…like over the edge of the cliff?  I say…no no…you just keep driving and I will quietly put everything back…quite the task as now Im sort of rolling back and forth down the hallway trying to pick up the contents…at any rate…no serious damage other than you sort of have to lift the fridge door a bit to close it…sort of reminded me of when we previously had stopped at a rest stop to discover one of the bay doors was wide open..but the Ninja was still in the bay and the door luckily had not smashed into any other vehicles…how do these things happen?

Next stop Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR…looks pretty good…sort of “classy”…you have to register your RV and join the players club…so we both do this and the lady tells us we get $5.00 in free play…Stu asks me…can I put in the free play and then cash it out?  So I guess at that point he is thinking…great…free parking…and they pay me $5.00….we liked it there…they even gave us a free shuttle ride to a sports bar…Pat the shuttle driver told us in 1972 he was given a choice…jail time or join the military…he picked the later and served in Vietnam…interesting fellow and still had his 1972 hairdo…

Next stop Florence Oregon…3 Rivers Casino…on the way Stu had researched on his Gas Buddy app that we should fill up at the ARCO in Florence…cheapest gas in the area…we need both gas and propane…Im thinking…oh no…gas…this is going to be stressful…so we pull up to the pump…all 50 plus feet of us…and the girl comes bouncing out and says…you just need to pull up on the other side of the pump since I will need to use the long hose…Stu says…how am I supposed to do that…she tells him just go around the block…so we do….ended up circling that narrow residential block 4 times in all…when it came time for the propane their hose is not long at all so I had to get out and guide him in close without taking out the whole propane tank…the window is open at this point and Im back in my lounger…but I can hear everything they are saying…she is now questioning Stu about the propane situation…”it’s Oregon law…make sure everything is turned off…go into that unit and double check”….so he does….yep all good in here he tells her…then she says…”that’s good because I have seen what can happen…even leaving the fridge on can cause a problem resulting in a huge fire….fire shooting out everywhere”…Im listening to all this thinking wow…the propane fill is even more stressful than the gas…then Stu comes to the door and quietly says…hey can you turn off that fridge…Im thinking…seriously…I am afraid to even open the door…if I can get it open…since as you recall its a bit tricky from the last “incident” and if I do get it open will my face be blown off from a fireball?  At any rate…opened it turned it off and I guess next time we will know…the life on a MOHO tour is a constant learning process…

Oct 25/2015…The Mills Casino in Coos Bay, Oregon…they actually have a full RV park there but for $15.00 you can park on the gravel and still use their “dump” service…so here’s a big surprise…we chose the gravel…not much excitement here other than when we put one of the slides out and a pop can was caught under it from the fridge “incident”…sort of crunched a bit of wood…might need a Home Depot sooner than later to do some “home repairs”

What…I cant possibly help in these shoes….

Now in Gold Beach, Oregon in a MOHO park on a river that flows into the ocean..quite nice so far and a pub right across the street………on a side note…we paid extra for “waterfront”…..but the new accomodation manager was able to find a pay for 2 days get 3…total was $82.72 for 3 nights…Im fitting into my new role as accomodation manager quite nicely….we even have our satellite set up so we can catch the Flames games this week…hope they improve…golfed Salmon Run Golf Resort…very “interesting”….the 20 year old at the desk told us…”oh yes….you can walk it…in what lifetime…it was tough to walk…

Salmon Run Golf...who said this was "walkable"...I call bullshit
Salmon Run Golf…who said this was “walkable”…I call bullshit

We found a cute bar in Gold Beach….shocker…right across the street from the MOHO park…it was like on Cheers…lots of regulars along with lots of “trailer park people”…at any rate…we are on the last night and decide…yep…we need these cool glasses…Arch Rock Brewing Company…so we ask the waiter…can we buy these…he says not here…but go next door to the brewing company and they sell it all…OK…we do…..Hi…we were just next door can we buy your glasses to take home….well…you sure can…and I can fill them for you…what…this is now like paradise…so he pours a couple of pints along with really great beer in our new glasses and he says…but you have to drink them here…oh…that Oregon law…remember the propane incident….OK…so we start to get to know Larry…the owner…him and his wife…from AZ…settled here and his beer is all through Oregon and rightly so…now I must say…Stu has graduated from just testing the beer to meeting all the owners…in Florence AZ…we also met the owner of 7Devils, Carmen…got to know him too…great beer as well….is this a new trend????

Larry and Stu Gold Beach...gotta try their beer!!!

  1. You guys crack me up!!! Wish I knew you were visiting San Francisco that’s basically where I grew up! I know the best places to eat.

  2. OMG! The more someone poops it’s their responsibility to dump it! Good luck with that theory and your wife… She will be taking your credit card to the closet Marriott

  3. First of all Bannie….we have graduated from Walmart ….we are now professional Casino boon dockers….it’s free, they have security and give u $$$$ to gamble…..on the toilet overflow comment….no way as there again I am a professional ‘dumper’. (Moho term)….I am thinking about buying a toilet meter and iPhone app so we can track ‘usage’….my thoughts are the bigger user should be the ‘dumper’….

  4. Don’t let us hear about you Moho Walmartians in the Walmart newsletter any time soon!!! Sounds like you’re having a blast on
    your tour!!!

  5. Marianne – is that you walking carrying your clubs?

Please just don’t let us see any Walmartian pictures with your faces in them. If that happens, time to head home.

  6. I’ll wave at you two from my hotel room overlooking the Walmart parking lot you’ll be staying in… If youre nice to me I’ll let you come and enjoy the nice big shower and maybe for a fee, the bath tub.
